The mid-size SUV comes with the company's latest "Dynamic Shield" front fascia as seen on the facelifted Outlander Sport so there's plenty of chrome trim on the front where we notice a pair of slender headlights incorporating thin strips of LED daytime running lights while the fog lights have been positioned down low on the bumper.
The side profile doesn't look necessarily attractive as the car seems like it has been stretched from the C-pillar while the rear end with those vertical taillights certainly won't suit everyone's tastes. Those rear lighting clusters take their inspiration from the GR-HEV concept which was shown at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and just like on that car the taillights extend all the way down to the bumper.
Stepping inside the cabin, it's easy to notice that it has been largely carried over from the L200 / Triton upon which the new Pajero Sport is based and comes with a fairly decent look with some comfy leather seats, silver trim and a decent-sized display for the infotainment system. The central area of the dashboard appears to have a glossy black finish which will obviously be a fingerprint magnet while the electric parking brake makes its debut on a Mitsubishi.
Power comes from a 2.4-liter MIVEC turbodiesel engine teamed up with a newly developed 8-speed automatic gearbox that was created specifically for the new Pajero Sport. The output of the engine has not been disclosed but we do know in the pickup truck it has 154 PS (113 kW) & 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) and 181 PS (133 kW) & 430 Nm (317 lb-ft).
Sales of the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will commence this fall in Thailand and shortly after that it will be available in Australia, the ASEAN countries, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Russia, for a total of more than 90 countries.
