ARLINGTON, Texas — General Motors said Thursday that it will invest $331 million to produce the next-generation
Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and
Cadillac Escalade at its Arlington plant.
The new full-size SUVs are expected to go into production in calendar year 2013 as 2014 models. The redesigned Tahoe and Suburban and their sister models at GMC and Cadillac are expected to be considerably lighter, with smaller, more efficient engines.
In a statement, GM said the future SUVs would "offer better fuel efficiency than ever before without sacrificing the features and functionality (buyers have) come to expect."
GM in recent weeks has announced similar investments at plants in
Detroit,
Flint,
Toledo and
Bowling Green.
