Dunlop has broken new ground on wet road performance with the SP Sport 9000's radical unidirectional tread pattern. The slanted main grooves channel water to the outside of the tire like a turbine wheel. The tread bars at the shoulder edges make less contact with the road so the flow of water to the sides is optimized.
In addition, the linear length of the SP Sport 9000's main grooves are considerably longer than conventional straight grooves. This reduces water build-up in the front of the tread and improves resistance to hydroplaning resulting in more confident wet steering control.
The tread shoulder is extremely important for handling characteristics as tires are supported in these areas during handling and cornering. The SP Sport 9000 features stable shoulder blocks that greatly reduce tread squirm and distortion, offering a high degree of control in hard turns.
A triple tread radius provides full, even contact pressure across the face of the tread for improved grip and control in turns.
Dunlop's PSP-B technology optimizes the SP Sport 9000's casing and ply line. This allows the tire to maintain its optimum profile regardless of treadware for confidence-inspiring durability you can rely on throughout the life of the tire. In addition, the tread depth is computer-optimized for even tire wear.
This tire loves water.
While others are coming up for air, the SP Sport 9000's unique, exclusive HydroMax traction system redefines wet performance.
HydroMax is an ingenious combination of water shedding tread pattern design, wet grip compounding, and radial construction that will revolutionize your driving in the wet or dry!
HydroMax technology allows you to carve precise turns in wet conditions, charge through sudden downpours, and still swoosh the interstate with quiet grace.
While providing excellent wet traction, silica tread compounds can cause vehicles to develop static charges. The tread of the SP Sport 9000 features a ring made of carbon black compound which is connected to the silica-free base layer of the tread. This acts as a ground and effectively diverts static charges.
The SP Sport 9000's multi-shift noise reduction system includes longitudinal grooves that are molded at an angle to the direction of travel. These fan-shaped grooves, along with the shoulder bars, form a narrow passage. This prevents the creation of air columns resulting in lower noise levels.
The SP Sport 9000's tread and shoulder grooves are alternated four times. The computer-optimized mix of five different tread lengths in the center area of the tread and three different tread lengths in the shoulder assures that no tread pattern is repe ated over the entire tread length. This also helps reduce tire noise by producing sounds of mutually interfering frequencies at the shoulder and center portions of the tread. The resulting sound is, for the most part, not audible to the human ear.
1. Jointless Nylon Bands
Provide even distribution of contact pressure and significantly reduce tire growth at higher speeds for outstanding uniformity and structural integrity.
2. Electrostatic Conductivity
Carbon black compound ring in the middle of the tread is connected to the "PEN" system and acts as a ground to divert irritating static. (Available in P-Metric sizes only.)
3. Low Angle Lateral Grooves
Allow continuous water flow through the contact patch center, a critical high pressure area.
4. Triple Tread Radius
Provides increased contact patch area during cornering for greater traction and control.
5. PSP-B Technology
Optimizes casing and ply line for confidence-inspiring durability throughout the life of the tire.
6. Max Flange Shield
Helps protect expensive alloy wheels from curb damage and gives custom tire and wheel packages a clean, integrated look.
7. High Angle Shoulder Grooves
Align with shoulder blocks for improving cornering on dry surfaces.
Silica Tread Compound
For superb wet traction and braking grip. Also reduces rolling resistance.
