still not the same horsepower class. The drag Mustang has more power then the drag Skyline has and in otherwise the Skyline is AWD and the Mustang is higher horsepower RWD. Simply the Skyline is more close to the street level (becouse the HKS Skyline has MUCH smaller tires) while the Mustang is more of an hardcore Outlaw class near to 2000 horspower (with HUGE much bigger rear tires almost half the size of the car). As I said before American V8 muscle concieve speed as quarter mile while Japanese and Europen sports car belives more in track numbers, top speed and as overall around performance. Skyline GTR is an high performance track and all around road car in all condition, still Skyline GTR is the world fastest AWD car. Mustang or F-body American muscle cars is built for different purpose then the Skyline GTR.

Again as I said before it’s really hard to compare them because they are not running the same class, but I can tell you why I picked outlaw class to match that skyline. In outlaw class cars are around 3000lbs and they have to run 10.5 inch tire which is impressive. I have 11 inch tires on my street car and a viper has 13inch tire in stock form. Now a skyline doesn’t need 10.5 inch tires because they use AWD to launch and while AWD is great on the streets it has its limitations in a all out drag car (I will explain later). The supra in the same skyline class is allowed to run 10.5 inch because it’s a rear wheel drive. Also it doesn’t make sense for the skyline to run a wide tire because it will not benefit from it, but in fact it will slow it down due to heavier rotational mass.
An AWD car needs simple slicks to grip hard with no problems, but it still can’t match the same 60ft of a RWD car which hurt it in the 1/4mile. That is why you don’t see top fuel cars running AWD. The reasons are drive train loss from the front wheel system and weigh transfer when launching. I’m talking about 60fts here because it’s the most important aspect in a 1/4mile race. Each .1 in 60ft reduction will equal .15-.3 sec reduction in ET overall time. That’s why you will hardly find an AWD drag car hitting 1.3 or 1.4 60ft while you can see a lot of RWD cars doing that in Strip/Street cars. These are the reasons why a RWD is better in a drag race.
Now to discuss American cars VS skyline/Evo in a road course track. First before I start talking about this I should tell you that I used to be a instructor here in the states and I drove all kinds of cars from Japanese to American, but I never had the chance to try a skyline around a road course here in the states. I can tell you this from experience any car can handle with the right tweaks and driver, but here we are talking about STOCK cars right? The answer to your question will be really simple: It will depend on the road course layout. Let me explain better… If you have a road course with .8 mile straight way then the car with more power will make a lot of lost time there and will basically eliminate the advantage the skyline/EVO have in turns. If you have a lot of tight turns then EVO will beat both the skyline and Camaro because they simply can’t use their power advantage to pass or keep the EVO behind them. I have an F-body and I road race it more than drag race it. A good driver will know the strength and weakness of his car and try to use it as much as he can. In competition driving better handling cars will find it really hard to pass if you follow a tight line around turns.
So which car is better around a road course? …. My answer it depends on the track layout.
Which car is better in AutoX?....... I can say Evo over Camaro any day.
As you can see there are no definite answers for comparisons like this because it really depends on the racing conditions. I would rather have some cars to drive it certain conditions over others. Each car has strengths and weaknesses. I hope this answers your question.
